Season’s Greetings from Helensburgh Pier

18 December 2025

Members of the charity behind the reopening of Helensburgh Pier wish everyone a peaceful Christmas and say they are working hard behind the scenes to progress their campaign.

Chairman Bill Purdon said “We want to thank the community for their support and assure them that negotiations for a 25 year lease with the pier’s owners, Argyll & Bute Council, are progressing and we hope can be concluded early in the new year.”

He went on the say that a further report on the structure was now to hand and that prices are being sought for a range of options. He added, “These options are also being discussed with the Council to ensure that on completion the closure notice will be lifted.”

Once costs and options have been agreed, Bill has confirmed that a funding strategy will be implemented which will include a public appeal.

The charity will continue to provide updates on progress, but in the meantime fellow trustees John Beveridge, Anne Foy, Graeme Phanco, and Henri van der Stighelen join Bill in thanking the community for their support and patience and send best wishes for positive news in 2026.
